Reliable Controls provided a detailed assessment, recommendations, engineering and commissioning for modifications of the Retort process at the Nevada gold mine. Retort is a process used to remove mercury vapors present in smelting operations.
After a complete engineering and regulatory review of the process and facilities, we provided controls engineering and other services, including:
Chaired and conducted HAZOP meetings
Modified and added equipment to existing P&IDs
Created electrical schematics
Developed the PLC program, HMI program and SCADA system
Interfaced existing equipment with new control PLC
Procured, commissioned and tested required equipment, per design and permit
Created data historian trends to track compliance required by permit
RCC also provided product specifications, construction observation and commissioning for the new Retort units. The new automated process controls external conditions to the retort oven to comply with the State of Nevada’s Permit to Operate, and—most importantly—to ensure the safety of plant personnel. This work was necessary for the plant to remain in operation. Reliable Controls also provided solutions for the following areas of operation:
Capture and handling of exhaust gases
Work practices during the process, including heating, mercury condensation and carbon bed scrubbing
Monitoring and record-keeping
Congratulations to the RCC team on another successful project with complete client satisfaction!
