Mine-Affected Water Improvement

RCC used many unique methods to successfully complete this project, but two of the most crucial were our work pack documentation process and our P&ID and PFD systemization approach.

Beginning in October of 2016, Reliable Controls took part in a project that aims to significantly improve the quality of mine-affected water. The method involves using naturally-occurring organic processes to reduce the amounts of selenium and nitrate in the affected water, making it safe to return to the environment.

The RCC commissioning team's mission was to ensure all the integrated infrastructure, mine and plant systems for the project were thoroughly inspected, pre-commissioned, commissioned, documented and turned over to the client's operation group. RCC used many unique methods to successfully complete this project, but two of the most crucial were our work pack documentation process and our P&ID and PFD systemization approach. These practices provided the organization, communication and clear expectations required to drive construction and achieve on-time project completion. This allowed our client to reach their goals and begin return of investment sooner. Our team faced unique challenges throughout this project, perhaps the greatest being freezing temperatures and a harsh climate throughout the commissioning of this outdoor water system. The RCC team and project personnel expressed pride in working toward something that could do so much for the environment. This was the first full-scale project of its type, and if proven successful, will be employed at multiple mines worldwide.
