Job Duties: This position provides electrical engineering support for control systems projects and will focus primarily on the construction, pre-operational testing, commissioning and startup phases of industrial facilities.  May fill the role of supervisor or project manager of a project or portion of a project.  This position will be working in a team environment under conditions that are sometimes stressful associated with critical project deadlines and heavy workloads.

Responsibilities include:

  • Engineer, design, and maintain installation of electrical, instrumentation and automation systems associated with processing plants, gas compression facilities, mining facilities and related industrial plants.
  • Engineering of electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel design, PLC and HMI hardware and programming software.
  • Design, specification, and procurement of control systems, low-voltage switchgear, motor control centers, and variable frequency drives.
  • Troubleshoot circuit and/or design problems and provide technical assistance to field crews.
  • Compliance and enforcement of company safety, environmental and governmental policies and regulations as they apply.
  • Maintain project schedules and reporting.
  • Maintain master sets of electrical drawing packages for projects.
  • Follow instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform job functions under minimal supervision.
  • Must be willing to travel up to 50%.

Education Requirements: Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering

Experience Requirements: 5 years of experience as an Electrical and Controls Engineer

Key Competencies/ Skill Set:

  • Demonstrated competency in electronic engineering including engineering principles, practices and procedures.
  • Demonstrable ability in the following:
    1. Programming Allen-Bradley PLC’s;
    2. Programming skills in C, VB and Matlab;
    3. Operation of various power, voltage and current measurement equipment, test instruments and hand tools;
    4. Analysis and solving complex problems;
    5. Use of Graphic Tools such as Visio, Autocad, and Intellution Ifix;
    6. Microsoft Office programs;
    7. Reading and understanding electrical schematics and drawings;
    8. Effective written and verbal communication.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the following:
    1. RSLinx, RSNetworx, and RSLogix Software Tools;
    2. DeviceNet, ControlNet and TCP/IP Protocols;
    3. PLC ladder logic, digital and sequential logic programming methods, and process related closed-loop control systems;
    4. The National Electrical Code;
    5. API codes as applied to electrical installations.

Work Conditions:

On-site working conditions include heavy industrial environments such as mining and gas industries. These environments may have conditions that include extreme temperature conditions, both hot and cold; in and/or around moisture; on slippery and/or uneven surfaces, in confined spaces; and at heights.

Hours of operation and employee schedules vary based off each project and may require irregular or extended hour and travel for project completion.

  • Travel includes both domestic and international travel.
  • Will require frequent standing, occasional bending, squatting, climbing, twisting, balancing and reaching
  • Will have exposure to noise, vibrations, well-treating chemicals, glycol, methanol, gasoline, natural gas and liquid hydrocarbons Will often work alone with minimum supervision.
